Gayleen herself is a study in joy, and of someone who has followed her dream. The boutique, which opened in 2003, has already been voted "Best Urban Specialty Store" and "Best Apparel & Accessories" in the Gaslamp at the annual Gaslamp Quarter Association LampLighter Awards. No small feat, considering the many exclusive and unique boutiques in this newly-revitalized district.
"Bubbles is a gem in the Gaslamp Quarter," writes one happy customer on the BUBBLES' website. "The staff were ALWAYS very nice and willing to help in whatever way possible," writes another, and yet another big fan says simply "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!"
Local artists are the ones also thanking Nichols. She loves to buy from women entrepreneurs--any given product might have been made by a friend or neighbor; but don't get the wrong idea. This is no mere craft show; these are amazing products. Some which have been featured in "In Style" and on programs such as "Everybody Loves Raymond." Nichols also carries Ankh Apparel, which is favored by Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria, the PJ Salvage Pajama Line, "Just IV Me," and the beautiful and unique Mary Frances Purses. And oh, yeah, Katie Couric herself ordered a mug from the boutique earlier this month. Bubbles Boutique even gets an endorsement from a neighboring businessman who wanders in. Michael Durniok, manager of Hilo Hattie talks it up during our interview. "My employees come in here all the time and spend money! Yeah, it's a great store!"
Who can help but become addicted? A walk through takes you on a tropical journey, with scents like "Onolicious" (coconut & mango), "Margarita," "Kailua Breeze," "Hula Girl," and even regional ones like "Paradise Sunset" (banana & coconut), "Beachcomber" (coconut and floral), and "Torrey Pines" that smells predictably, like pine.
It was the Cupcake products that brought LA Style Watch into the boutique, but it was the charm of the entire boutique and its delightful owner alike which will certainly keep us coming back for more!
