Debbie Reynolds, Ruta Lee and The Thalians present:The 51st Anniversary Ball...
...and boy do the ladies know how to put on a show! These two showstoppers started the night with a razzle-dazzle number--the likes of which are too few and far between these days. By the end of the evening, a touching tribute to Connie Stevens and her daughters Tricia and Joely Fisher was capped with the trio singing. Each had a touching word or two about family and heartfelt delivery for their respective selections. Their sweet version of "Nothing's Gonna Harm You" is still echoing in our mind's ear! What sweeties!
Yes, once again this year Thalians and those who love them gathered for a stimulating soiree that drew Hollywood legends like Carrie Fisher, Jayne Meadows, Jack LaLanne, A.C. Lyles, Barbara Eden, Dick Van Patten, Jane Russell, Ann Rutherford, Gary Collins & Wife Mary Ann Mobley, another former Miss America Lee Meriwether and husband Marshall Borden, Joan Van Ark,
Maria Conchita Alonso, Mitzi Gaynor, Stephanie Powers, Jack Klugman, and Valerie Harper.
Connie Stevens, Tricia Fisher, Joely Fisher, and "Desperate Housewives" Producer Marc Cherry join the ranks of other icons who have been previously honored by the Thalians--icons like Lana Turner, Liza Minnelli, Ann-Margret, Carol Channing, Burt Bacharach, Phyllis Diller, & Mary Tyler Moore.
Also adding their touch to the evening were the amazing sounds of the Ray Anthony Big Band, Comedian Jay Mohr, who provided his outrageous comedy and brought down the house (we won't bump you from this column, Jay!). Ace Young of American Idol Fame performed and won new fans with his meet-and-greet charm. Doris Roberts, Andrea Bowen, and team Cathy Lewis & Marc Cherry were good enough to share their talents with the legendary audience.
The evening also offered up a rousing live auction that brought zoo animals and cute poodles to the stage, as well as the lovely Mara Beltrami-New in a stunning mink. And attendees won't soon forget a highlight of the silent auction, who had quite a story to tell--Artist Thom Bierdz, whose painting, created onsite by the artist himself during the auction--went for $6,000. All to benefit the Thalians' big cause: the Thalians Mental Health Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
Congratulations go out to Mark, and again to Connie and the Fisher sisters
